New York adds touchscreen tour guides

Touch-screen kiosks named - On the Go! Travel Stations will very soon hit sixteen subway stations in New York. The high tech devices will offer street directions, step-by-step transit, information about escalator, elevator outages and service advisories. It will also provide information on nearby landmarks, local restaurants as well as neighborhood maps. The On the Go! Travel Stations will be introduced by the end of the year.

The very first New York Travel Fest is all set to open its doors on 20th April. It promises people a more interactive consumer travel event, one offering foods like pizza, winery as well as neighborhood tours, with guest speakers and panel discussions. The event starts at the Bohemian National Hall on the Upper East Side on Saturday and it continues the following day with a long series of city tours.Speakers over the 2 days include a keynote from National Geographic's Andrew Evans, Gadling's Grant Martin, Dan Saltzstein from the New York Times, Jason Clampet from Skift. Ticket prices range from US$ 50to US$ 85.

Amtrak will restore their Acela Express as well as Northeast Regional service between Boston and New York this afternoon. A train 194 from New York will be the 1st northbound departure at 5:00 pm. The 1st southbound departure from Boston will be Train 2259 at 4:10 pm. Still, passengers must expect residual delays.
